Seal 善 [shàn] = Goodness

The ideogram 善 [shàn], which means goodness, compassion is composed of 羊 [yáng] and 言 [yán], where 羊 symbolizes a sheep and 言 means “word” or “what is said“.

In ancient times, owning a sheep was a custom within every Chinese home. This pet was particularly appreciated because it was able to react with kindness in all circumstances. According to Chinese culture, the concept of “benevolence” is therefore well associated with the pictogram 善.
