On Sunday 27 September 2020 the concert of Gen Verde “One in Hope” was broadcast live on youtube.

An event promoted and organized with the collaboration of the Vincentian Family remembering the figure of St. Vincent de ‘Paul.

The first step of a great project.

On 27 September 2020, the day on which the Church celebrates the figure of St. Vincent de Paul, the Vincentian Family – which with its 170 branches is present in 158 countries and has over four million adherents in five continents – recalled this together with the musical group Gen Verde with a special concert on youtube.

“The projects were different – explains Sally McAllister, manager of Gen Verde – in fact these days we should have been in the U.S.A. for a tour that would involve our friends of the Vincentian Family and the Focolare Movement in several concerts. But the pandemic has blocked everything and so we decided to make this obstacle a launch pad by using the web to make a concert – just the weekend that would have marked the start of the tour – thus involving many more people, and not only. those present in North America but all over the world ”. Together with a team from the Vincentian Family Office in the USA, Gen Verde has created this special event which also marks the beginning of a new path, a project in which the Focolare Movement and the Vincentian Family work together to transmit the strength of unity that springs from their charisms at the service of all humanity.

“One in Hope”, this is the title of the concert which includes not only songs, but also testimonies on the themes of solidarity and universal brotherhood.

Thus was born the idea of an unreleased concert and for the occasion Gen Verde wrote and composed a song in honor of the founder of the Vincentian Family. “We were very impressed by the story of St. Vincent de Paul – explains the composer Nancy Uelmen – and in particular how he was able to look beyond appearances to discover the face of God in the poor. This discovery for him was a call to encounter Jesus in the poor. In the text of the song, written in the first person as if it were St. Vincent de Paul speaking, we perceive the same gaze of the Good Samaritan (of which the Gospel speaks) that when he sees a person in need he does not pass by, indifferent, but stops and helps her. It seemed a very topical message to us: in everyday life so hectic and fleeting there is an extreme need that we all learn to live with this same spirit ”.

Vincent’s Song (You Did It To Me) is a song with electronic sounds and an engaging rhythm. Gen Verde supported a well-decided choice, not only to involve young people more, but also to express the sense of urgency that St. Vincent always had in his desire to go out and meet the poor to help them.
