Blue Monday – why is it the saddest day of the year?
January is a challenging month for everyone. The holidays are now past and far away, it’s cold, and the sun is on its days off. These are some factors present in the equation developed by a psychologist from Cardiff University a few years ago to calculate the saddest day of the year.
What is Blue Monday?
They called it Blue Monday, and it was marked on the third Monday of January every year. Why blue? Blue is a cold color, and from the fourteenth century it identifies sadness. All of us, we know the expression “Feeling blue”; especially in the moments when all the things are not going as they are supposed. And, on the other hand, the challenge of Mondays is known worldwide, both for those who study and for those who work, to return to daily business after the weekend.
But does the saddest day of the year really exist?
There is actually no scientific basis! The factors within the equation are extremely variable or not
quantifiable, and this allows us to take up the January challenge! We do not have to wait for June and the happiest day of the year to do, discover and share those things that are the reasons for our daily joy.
