Loppiano hosts many artists. Yesterday, Hung’s latest work, a Chinese artist mainly engaged in metalworking and calligraphy, left for Augsburg. The life-size sculpture represents San Vincenzo de ‘Paoli.
The adventure began a year ago, when Hung met the Sisters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul of Augsburg. He was asked for help in the beautification of the environment that the sisters were creating. The bench on which his sculpture sits is similar (not to say almost the same) to many other benches in the sisters’ garden. The place is dedicated to the rest of people who have spent their lives giving themselves to the poor. Those who lean on this bench will be able to feel the company of the Saint, known for his passion for the poor.
Another important element in Hung’s sculpture is the wicker basket in which there are five loaves and two fish. I wanted to follow in the footsteps of this saint, says the artist. I wanted to relive the life of a Saint with today’s Spirit of Economy of Communion. The main idea captured by the artist lies in ORGANIZED CHARITY: in the ability to multiply five loaves and two fish in order to feed those who are hungry, in the ability to give continuity to the good that others have begun, in the ability to to believe that “giving to eat” (cf. Mk 6:37) is up to us all.
Hung has been cooperating with the Economy of Communion project for many years now. With his works, as he says, he wants to satiate the thirst of beauty.
