On 14 February we celebrate the feast of St. Valentine, the anniversary dedicated to lovers, known and celebrated all over the world.

According to one of the legends the bishop of Terni, Valentino, lover of flowers, collected buds from his garden and gave them to couples of young lovers in order to bless them and to make sure that they remained together forever. Today he is celebrated all over the world as the Saint of love.

Over the years, different traditions have been established for this day and among the many we like to remember that of Valentines, love cards. It was born in the nineteenth century, when lovers used to send a love letter to their loved one for Valentine’s day.

They are love cards often shaped in the form of stylized hearts or according to other themes typical of the popular representation of romantic love. Letters that on the envelope, or inside, have floral motifs, maidens, romantic cupids and other gallant decorations.

Exchanging gifts and love messages is the most characteristic feature of the Valentine’s Day, which is still current in most of the world.
