Seal 禮 [lǐ] = Courtesy, gift

The ideogram ? [l?] in a simplified way becomes ? [l?] ceremony, ritual. The radical ? [shì] here takes on the meaning of “cult, ceremony”. In its traditional form the component ? [l?] is the combination of two pictograms that symbolize a “basket full of legumes (?)”. ? evokes the custom of exchanging gifts, often of food.
